Who is the course for?
The AED course has been designed to allow people who have access, or potential access to an AED to learn the correct methods of operation and application. It also provides an excellent way of allowing organisations to assess the ease in which an AED can be used in the workplace.
Minimum Entry Requirements:
16+ years of age. It’s desirable that the person has a valid First Aid certificate, but not essential.
Certification:
Certificate of competence. Issued by the Ambulance Service and valid for six months.
Duration:
Half Day.
Class Size:
Student / Instructor ratio of 12:1.
Who delivers it?
Commercial Ambulance Instructor.
Description:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe the chain of survival.
2. Recognise and manage asphyxia.
3. On a manikin demonstrate Basic Life Support including Airway Management.
4. Recognise and manage cardiac related illnesses.
5. Describe the function of a defibrillator.
6. State the defibrillation safety procedures.
7. On a manikin demonstrate the use of a defibrillator within a cardiac arrest scenario.
8. Demonstrate post cardiac arrest care on a simulated patient.
